Our Week on Path Holiday

So this past week we were on our Pathology Rotation. This involves mornings looking through microscopes doing hematology and cytology. We also worked through a couple of biochemistry reports. Our afternoons were comprised of post mortem examinations. For these we had to don paper biohazard suits, plastic aprons, yellow wellies, and latex gloves (sexy outfits, I know). We then had to cut into various animals, both pets and farm animals, to investigate their possible cause of death. Each one of us had to then take on a case, which we were to present at the end of our rotation. My dog ended up having dilated cardiomyopathy, Erin's cat had a meningioma, Lauren's calf had hydrocephalous, Hannah's cat had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and Jamie's calf had septicemia. All in all we had some pretty interesting cases and great staff working with us, making this rotation a pretty enjoyable one!! Next up... Equine Out of Hours....
